Wits 2023 Application – Deputy Vice Chancellor

Job Description:

The University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg seeks to appoint a Deputy Vice-Chancellor: People Development and Culture (DVC: PDC) on a 5 year fixed-period contract, which may be renewed for a further 5 years based on the performance of the incumbent. The full remit of the DVC: PDC portfolio will be determined once a successful candidate has been appointed.

Job Requirements:

• High level financial management, and an understanding of the institutional strategy and financial framework of a research intensive university;
• Effective stewardship of the functions, which fall under the portfolio at a central and faculty level;
• Demonstrable experience in a senior managerial position in a university or similar institution;
• Knowledge of the higher education sector in South Africa and Africa;
• Ability to execute strategy, and effective strategic planning and administration;
• Ability to lead and manage diverse teams, and have strong communication skills;
• Ability to effectively interact and engage different stakeholders, internally and externally;
